Friday, August 12th, 2011

We’re big fans of  Spa-London, so we were pleased to hear that the brand has plans to expand. GLL, the leisure trust behind the concept, will be opening the first of the new sites later this year. Swimming costumes at the ready…

The first new Spa-London venue is due to be opened at the Rainbow Centre in Epsom, later this year. GLL are also considering setting up a second at their Wimbledon leisure centre – good news for South Londoners.

Mark Sesnan, Managing Director of GLL, said: ‘[Spa-London] forms part of our product portfolio, but only in certain locations.

‘You’re not going to see another 20 Spa-Londons, but you will see some more.’

Owners of Ragdale Hall health spa celebrate 21 years of involvement

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Big congratulations to Ragdale Hall owners Michael Isaacs and Penny Nesbitt, who recently celebrated twenty one years running their award-winning spa. We hope there was lots of cake in honour of the occasion!

Ragdale Hall was first opened in 1973 by Slimming Magazine, but was bought in 1990 by Michael Isaacs and Gary Nesbitt (Penny’s late husband). Since then the spa has seen the introduction of a variety of new facilities, including the impressive Thermal Spa, which opened in 2007. Featuring an unusual candle pool and a waterfall pool, the Thermal Spa is the perfect place to relax, unwind and refresh the body.

Over the years, Ragdale Hall has won a number of well-deserved awards, including the Best Spa in Europe 2007, Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Spa Awards 2010 Favourite UK Spa Retreat and Sunday Times Travel Magazine’s Readers’ Awards – Favourite UK Spa 2010.

Michael Isaacs says, ‘Ragdale Hall is a very special place and Penny and I are very proud to have been its custodians for the last 21 years. We have an incredible band of very loyal staff, many who have been with us from day one.  We are also very grateful for the support of so many loyal guests who come back time and time again’.

Fancy a celebratory trip to Ragdale Hall? Why not treat yourself to a pampering spa break. And whilst you are there, grab a copy of ‘Ragdale Hall – The Life and Times of an English Country House’ from the boutique and learn all about the Hall’s fascinating history.

New spa hotel to open in old spa town

Monday, July 11th, 2011

There’s more to Buxton than just bottled water. The spa town has long been prized for the beneficial properties of its natural geothermal springs, and now plans are afoot for a £35 million transformation of the town’s Crescent, natural baths and pump room into a luxurious spa hotel. We can’t wait to see the final result…

The project (which is receiving a £500,000 grant from English Heritage) will see the Grade-I and Grade-II listed buildings converted in to a 79 room spa hotel. The hotel will incorporate the town’s natural baths in addition to a thermal spa, a natural mineral water spa, 8 specialist shops and a visitor centre. The natural baths are built on the site of old Roman baths, so visitors can expect a stay that’s steeped in history.

Work is expected to begin later this year with repairs to the pump room. Caitlin Bisknell, leader of High Peak Borough Council, who are involved in the development, says that the project will ’strengthen the growing reputation of our spa town as a major visitor destination’.

We reckon it’s time to crack open a bottle of Buxton mineral water in anticipation of this exciting new hotel. Cheers!

Chill Out Spa Crowned Knowsley’s ‘New Business of the Year’

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Most businesses wouldn’t dare to attempt a launch during the depths of a recession, but the team at Chill Out Spa (who did just that) have been rewarded for their efforts by being named New Business of the Year at the 8th Annual Knowsley Business Awards.

The awards ceremony took place at the Huyton Suite, Knowsley, and celebrated both emerging and well established business in the Knowsley area. Chill Out Spa fought off stiff competition, but the panel felt the that the originality of the company, the strength of their marketing initiatives, the remarkable efforts made in launching the business and its continued growth deserved recognition and so awarded them the title.

“We are absolutely delighted with our award,” said the spa owner, Sharon Carroll. “To be named New Business of the Year is just fantastic. We’ve worked incredibly hard over the past 18 months, but even so, we were up against some great businesses in the category and it took us by surprise!”

Ms Carroll and her team went against the advice of trusted friends and respected business associates when they founded Chill Out Spa just as the credit crunch began to bite harder and the recession loomed. However, it is clear their hard work has paid off; as well as receiving the Business of the Year award, there are plans being laid down for expansion and the team is also looking to branch out and provide a wider range of services on site.

“The spa has gone from strength to strength,” added Sharon. “We’re constantly looking at ways to provide a unique and special service for all of our customers, and have been overwhelmed by the local support.”

To check out Chill Out Spa’s award winning ways yourself (and perhaps spend that Wahanda gift voucher that is burning a hole in your pocket), start by heading over to their dedicated Wahanda page.

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Have you always dreamt of opening your own salon, but feared that you lack the right management skills? The UK may be still in the midst of recession recovery, but statistics have shown that the beauty industry is experiencing a boom in the downturn. The industry as a whole is currently worth over £3.7 billion, and with a multitude of treatments now seen as a necessity rather than a luxury amongst consumers, there has never been a better time to launch your own beauty business.

For those who have the passion and knowledge required to break into the beauty arena, but are perhaps less business savvy, a new book could help. The book’s unique step-by-step format walks you through the entire process of establishing a beauty salon, covering specifics such as how to choose a location, qualifications that you and your staff will need, how to select equipment and furniture, business management and the expert authors’ view on the elusive formula for success.

Written by beauty therapist Sally Medcalf (who has 25 years of beauty industry experience under her belt, including 12 years running her own salon and Beauty Therapist and Facialist of the year nominations) and marketing expert Bijan Yousef-Zadeh (a member of Chartered Management Institute and a successful beauty business entrepreneur), Start and Run a Successful Beauty Salon is published by How To Books Ltd and is available at £14.99 in major bookshops and online retailers across the country.

Wahanda Meets The Sanctuary

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

You’d think Wahanda would know it all when it comes to spas by now, but believe it or not we can still be surprised. We were delighted to be invited down to ladies-only spa The Sanctuary in Covent Garden on Tuesday night for an exciting launch night filled with fellow bloggers and lots of canapes – and both were equally lovely.

Not only are The Sanctuary about to launch a new product range (which, trust us, you’ll love), but they are also opening more locations in the very near future – something everyone was very happy about! We also tried out their wonderful new prescription facial, so keep an eye out for our tried and tested blog for the insider’s look at their treatments.

We were given a guided tour of this stunning venue – and could not believe our eyes. The spa is like a maze of tranquil areas filled with beautiful decor, from sleeping areas to the huge restaurant (and its melt-in-your-mouth food), to the iconic pool and swing. We never knew you could get away to such a relaxing, airy and serene space in a bustling Covent Garden – and were amazed to find they had over 40 treatment rooms. We’ll be writing about the new products on Wahanda soon and there could be more treats on the way…
