Wahanda Tries…The Hypoxi Therapy Trainer

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

hypoxiBy Melissa Brobby.

Are you dreaming of a quick way to lose unwanted cellulite and inches from your bottom, hips and thighs without resorting to liposuction or six days a week at the gym?  Well, we at Wahanda also feel your pain, and that’s why we jumped at the chance to try out the latest piece of fitness technology that is taking the exercise world by storm - the Hypoxi Therapy Trainer.  Its aim is to target the fat stored in your hips, thighs and buttocks helping you to lose inches and reduce cellulite whilst firming your skin within a short space of time.  Sound too good to be true? We went along to The City Point Club in Moorgate, London to put it to the test.

Tempted to give it a go yourself? Why not book yourself in for a free session with our special offer?

Whether you’re struggling to drop a dress size, have tried to change your body shape but countless gym visits have shown no results, or you’re looking to achieve a great figure with very little effort, then Hypoxi could be for you.  Its wondrous benefits claim to include:

•    A noticeable reduction to the appearance of cellulite.
•    A naturally toned lower body.
•    Concentrated fat burn on the buttocks, hips and thighs that results in fast and effective weight loss.

It is estimated that around 90% of women are prone to gaining fatty deposits on the lower body thanks to poor circulation, and many find that numerous diets or visits to the gym do nothing to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the hips, thighs and buttocks, or shift the fat from those areas.  The Hypoxi Trainer tackles those problem areas using a unique combination of gentle exercise and vacuum therapy within a short space of time.

How does it work?

As you gently cycle within the machine, a vacuum below you generates a low atmospheric pressure to the hips, thighs and buttocks giving you the feeling you’re being sucked into a hole, but this triggers an increased flow of blood to these areas.  This helps break down fatty tissue as you exercise, and the fatty acids from the lower body only are then circulated around your body where they are burnt off as fuel for your muscles.

The increased blood, nutrition and oxygen supply to the lower body results in fast weight loss and reduction in cellulite from your hips, buttocks and thighs.  It is recommended to incorporate this treatment alongside a regular fitness regime for maximum results.

Each session lasts thirty minutes, and it’s recommended that this is done 3 or 4 times a week to really see a difference.  Once you have been weighed and measured before your first session, the amount you will need is determined by your consultant; however, the minimum number of sessions on the Hypoxi trainer is 12 which can cost from £400 to £500.  You will also be given a food recommendation plan to help prevent any weight you lose from returning when your sessions are over.

Don’t be disheartened if you can still see your cellulite after your first session as it is not a magic machine!  However, follow their recommended healthy eating plan, and use the machine 3 or 4 times a week, and who knows what transformation your lower half will take?  If it’s good enough for Cheryl Cole, it can work for you too!

Pamper me Beautiful - WWC Event at DestinationSkin

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

DestinationSkin, LondonThe Wahanda Wellness Club thought it was time to indulge in a spot of free pampering, so we happily headed on down to the DestinationSkin Clinic at London’s Westfield shopping centre to get  our free skin consultation and facial worth £95.

On arrival, guests received a warm welcome, wonderful smiling faces as well as champagne, strawberries, pretty little cup cakes and a tray full of other tempting goodies. We were then seated in the reception area where we were asked to fill in a health form and questionnaire, before being whisked away by one of the friendly members of staff for our consultation. Based on the questionnaire each guest was given the chance to discuss with the consultant about their skin concerns and treatments they would be interested knowing more about.

Following the consultation, guests were placed before a machine for a skin analysis using the latest skin imaging system to detect the level of hydration, congestion, blood distribution and sun damage that the skin may have.

Based on the skin analysis, guests were then treated to a facial tailored to suit their skin type and were taken to a private treatment room. There are five treatment rooms, all with a clean, airy and contemporary feel to it.

The facial treatment consisted of a gentle scrub to remove dead skin cells and open pores, followed by a fruit acid exfoliation which was left on for about 5 minutes and lastly a hydrating moisturiser was massaged over the face and neck for a soft and supple finish.

Guests were then given the opportunity to sample the new cellulite busting machine, known as SmoothShapes. Wahanda reviewer Amily was one of the first lucky guests to try SmoothShapes saying:

“The new machine had only been unwrapped at the store earlier that day, and had come straight in from the USA. The treatment felt like a hoover sucking hard on the problem areas, but was not painful at all, and after a while became rather therapeutic!”

Before heading off home, the staff were more than happy to discuss any further treatments that guests may have wanted including laser hair removal, permanent make up and other facial treatments. They were also offering a great discount of 20% off any treatment that was booked that day, so lucky you can indulge in yet another pamper session.DestinationSkin, London

All guests were also given the chance to win a £100 Wahanda voucher, simply by writing a review of their treatment on Wahanda.

If you didn’t make this event, don’t worry. You can still be involved, find out how you can be one of the first to be invited to all future Wellness Events.

Muddy know-how: Wahanda meets Laura Carrick, Chelsea Harbour Club

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

By Judy Johnson

Wahanda recently tried the skin-smoothing Phytomer Muddy Stones treatment, a new exclusive launch at the luxurious Chelsea Harbour Club. A truly indulgent experience, we wanted to find out more about Phytomer and all its secrets, so we quizzed Spa Manager Laura Carrick on the why’s and how’s of muddy stones…

Hot stone massageWho is the Phytomer Muddy Stones treatment best for?
Anyone who loves indulging in body wraps but wants a little extra – as this includes some hot stone massage, it makes it more relaxing as well as detoxifying. It has been created solely for Chelsea Harbour Club by Alistair Johnson, Spa Development Manager from Phytomer, after researching treatments all over the world.

Why Phytomer?
Phytomer products are a 100% natural French brand containing seaweed and trace elements. Seaweed is great for the skin as it has a similar composition to our skin, which means the minerals are absorbed easier. However, anyone with Iodine intolerance cannot use it.

What are the minerals in the mud good for?
The mud softens and smoothes skin as well as remineralising it and is also detoxifying on the body.

What benefit do the hot stones in the treatment have?
Using the hot stones means it’s a more luxurious and effective treatment, as many people who have body wraps simply have to lay there while it gets to work. With the Phytomer Muddy Stones, clients get a massage as well so it’s a complete indulgent relaxation treatment. The heat of the stones and the massaging action increases blood circulation and means the therapist can work further into the muscle aiding and promoting the relaxation of the client and overall wellbeing.

Why is the treatment performed on a heated plinth?
For much the same reason as the hot stones – to help relax the body and the muscles.

Phytomer’s body and facial product range is available to purchase at Chelsea Harbour Club – the only stockist in Central London. Read our tried and tested write up of the Muddy Stones treatment for a sneaky peek of what’s involved. Wahanda customers also get a super special 20% off the exclusive treatment - who says you can’t buy happiness?

One to watch: Chelsea Harbour Club are launching even more skin-tingling treatments in June and July, including:

  • Phytomer Take Thai ‘M’ Out Massage - a holistic massage combining lavender bolus’s and pressure point movements to release and relax the stress and strain on the body.
  • Phytomer Marine Pearl Facial - rejuvenating and anti-ageing facial using anti-ageing facial massage movement as well as balls of pure seawater to plump and brighten the skin.
  • Lava Shell Massage - the alternative to hot stone massage using lava tiger clams and a self heating saline solution, 100% eco-friendly.

All wrapped up: Phytomer Muddy Stones Treatment at Chelsea Harbour Club

Chelsea Harbour Club

Chelsea Harbour Club

Wahanda loves all things spa, especially when there’s something new in town. So when spa experts Chelsea Harbour Club told us about their launch of a brand new, exclusive treatment using Phytomer products, we couldn’t wait to don our spa slippers and try it out.

If your skin needs a polish with a difference, put Chelsea Harbour Club at the top of your Wahanda wishlist. The Phytomer Muddy Stones treatment will not only leave you silky smooth, but will also soothe away tension making you feel utterly relaxed and left in pamper heaven. The perfect antidote for winter skin in preparation for the summer months, Wahanda sped down to the luxury spa hotspot to let the Phytomer minerals work their magical wonders.

The spa

Chelsea Harbour Club is nestled away in a quiet street of Fulham, making it tricky to find but it’s worth the walk. As a busy and bustling centre for sport and leisure, it’s only once you’ve wound your way down to the lower level spa that you begin to feel like you’re in a place of pampering. After a quick questionnaire about our current skincare routine, we were sent off to the luxurious and spacious changing rooms to swap our office wear for a fluffy white robe and matching slippers. Therapist Louisa then showed us around the stunning spa facilities, with the steam and sauna rooms and peaceful hydrotherapy pool, before heading to the hammam treatment room to begin.

A softly-lit, earthy looking hideaway to the side of the long swimming pool, the hammam room puts you at ease. Centred in the room is the warm plinth, where we have to lay for the treatment – it’s tough work, but someone has to do it! After leaving us to get comfy under the towels, Louisa came in to explain what the treatment involves – and we couldn’t wait.

Hot stone massageThe treatment

Starting with the backs of our legs, Louisa applied the mineral-rich Atlas mountain mud by Phytomer, massaging it in to make our skin soft and our muscles soothed. The mud felt grainy, while the heat of the plinth warmed through the body creating complete relaxation. The only snag was the hardness of the plinth, which can feel uncomfortable – but the massage soon melts that away. Using hot stones, Louisa gently relieved tension in our muscles while the wrap got to work. After one leg was fully smothered, Louisa wrapped it up and started on the other leg, repeating the same relaxing process.

While our pins stayed wrapped up and cosy, Louisa then applied the mud onto our back and shoulders, again using the heated stones to rub away tensions, then after unwrapping us so we could flip over, the front of our legs and tummy were given the same treatment. Louisa paid extra attention to problem areas such as the feet, making it feel like a mini pedicure. Once our whole body had been muddied and wrapped, she then applied the deliciously soothing mud mask to our face and neck, including an added scalp massage which made it tempting to fall straight to sleep in a state of bliss. But, after wiping away the mud from our face with a warm cloth, Louisa refreshed the skin with a cool Phytomer facial spritz, reviving the senses and bringing us back to reality.

The result

We then had the odd experience of being unwrapped, and without leaving the plinth, the mud was rinsed away using a shower and a mitt – making our skin feel softer than ever and utterly exfoliated. Sadly, this meant the treatment was over and we could no longer lie back on the warmth of the plinth, but Louisa had more than worked her magic. Our skin felt refreshed and radiant, and we felt completely calm after such a relaxing 75 minutes, ready to head off into the sunshine for a leisurely walk home.  Perfect as a body wrap with a difference, the Muddy Stones treatment is far more luxurious than it sounds - our skin has never felt better.

We tried it, we tested it, and we loved it. Book yours now on Wahanda, with our exclusive 20% off introductory offer. Plus,  find out more about the Chelsea Harbour Club and read our quick fire questions with Spa Manager Laura Carrick.

Jason Scott, Powertone Manager

Jason Scott, Powertone Manager

Last Thursday, the Wahanda Wellness Club were lucky enough to be invited down to the Powertone Studios in Fulham for a fun, yet intensive free taster session on the latest fitness trend - Power Plates.

Before the session commenced, guests were given a brief introduction by top instructor Sebastian about how the Power Plates work, before getting stuck in on their invigorating work out.

A full 25-minute session on the plates was all it took to work up a good sweat. Guests were asked which part of their body they would most like to tone up and Sebastian was able to show a workout tailored to everyone’s needs.

This fun, fast and effective time-saving machine is a great way to reduce body fat, produce a natural ‘high’, tone muscles, enhance vitality, detoxify and improve skin tone and limit the appearance of cellulite.

Powertone StudioGuests were super impressed with the workout, the helpful instructor and the studio ambience, so it’s no surprise that reviews have already started to flood in. In her review, Hemmysphere gave the session a five out of five saying:

“All the staff and the instructor, Sebastian, was lovely. Most importantly, I felt that I got a really good workout in 20 minutes with personalised attention from the instructor who was motivating and paid attention to my form.”

Before everyone headed off to relax, they were all given an introduction to the NARL fat-burning machine and given a complimentary pass to another session of Power Plates at any one of their studios based in Fulham, Chelsea, Mayfair or Battersea, so there’s no excuse not to keep up the good work!

If you missed this event, there’s no need to miss out - Wahanda is exclusively offering a free session at Powertone Studios which you can book directly online.
