‘Sweatox’ relieves hot Britons as temperatures soar

Sweatox - botox for sweatingWe all know that sweating is not particularly attractive but trying to control a dewy forehead or the moistness under your arm isn’t an easy task.  As experts issued health warnings this week to stay cool and keep protected, the heat is on which is why the Harley Medical Group declared the start of the ‘Sweatox Season’. It seems that some people are going to extreme measures to stop being sweaty this summer. The new trend is to go under the needle for a quick fix to zap away sweat, leaving you feeling fresh and fabulous.

What is Sweatox?
Sweatox is the name penned by the Harley Medical Group for anti-sweat botox treatments which have seen a dramatic increase in this unusual British heatwave.

This summer, the ‘Sweatox season’ has been brought forward because of the early and even unexpected summer heat. The Harley Medical Group has seen ‘Sweatox’ bookings outnumbering last year’s. Larger cities like London, Manchester and Chelmsford have seen the biggest increase in this new trend and people are flocking to get their pits and hands sweat free by using this famous treatment.

Sweatox can relieve sweat in the typically sweaty areas of the body, including:
•         Palms of the hands
•         Under arms
•         Chest
•         Soles of the feet

Dove Spa

If you’d like to give this anti-sweat treatment a go why not take a look at where you can get your dose of botox. But, if  ‘Sweatox’ is not for you then check out Wahanda’s top ten tips to stay cool and stress free this summer.

  1. Peak sun is a no no! Try to stay away from the sun between peak times 12-3 in the afternoon.
  2. Spritz on the go. Carry a moisture spritz in your bag to give yourself a much needed cool down on the go or why not try out the Dove Detox offer that uses a body scrub containing cooling peppermint oil.
  3. Hide your head. Hats are big in the fashion stakes this season and practical too, so hide your head in the sun and look stylish all at the same time.
  4. Dress cool. Now, we don’t mean dressing by the Vogue fashion guidelines with your key pieces- wearing a heavy suit in this heat can be seriously uncomfortable so opt for light weight and loose fit clothing.
  5. Pools are cool. Pop down to your local swimming pool to cool down either on your lunch break or after a hard day’s work.
  6. Water, water, water. Carry water at all times to keep hydrated and cool.
  7. Take time out. Take time to pamper yourself when the heat is on and stress levels are rising. Yoga is known to have a calming influence and keeps you fit too. Or keep calm with a relaxing massage.
  8. Retreat to cooler climates. If you really cannot stand this heat then why not retreat to a relaxing spa in the coolest country Iceland. The Blue Lagoon offers a range of treatments from Mud baths to Swedish massage.
  9. Spice is nice. A top tip for keeping cool is eating spicy foods. Spicy food stimulates your appetite, circulation and raises body temperature, making you sweat more therefore making you cooler.  Maybe that’s why in countries like Mexico and India their food is heavily influenced by hot spices.
  10. Sexy for summer. Keeping fit and healthy will make you happier in the summer months when you’re able to wear your favourite bikini or favourite summer mini dress. There are plenty of things to try including an all over body work out doing pole dancing or if you’d rather not work so hard try one of Wahanda’s free sessions of Power Plate.

Power-toning our way to fitness: WWC events

Jason Scott, Powertone Manager

Jason Scott, Powertone Manager

Last Thursday, the Wahanda Wellness Club were lucky enough to be invited down to the Powertone Studios in Fulham for a fun, yet intensive free taster session on the latest fitness trend - Power Plates.

Before the session commenced, guests were given a brief introduction by top instructor Sebastian about how the Power Plates work, before getting stuck in on their invigorating work out.

A full 25-minute session on the plates was all it took to work up a good sweat. Guests were asked which part of their body they would most like to tone up and Sebastian was able to show a workout tailored to everyone’s needs.

This fun, fast and effective time-saving machine is a great way to reduce body fat, produce a natural ‘high’, tone muscles, enhance vitality, detoxify and improve skin tone and limit the appearance of cellulite.

Powertone StudioGuests were super impressed with the workout, the helpful instructor and the studio ambience, so it’s no surprise that reviews have already started to flood in. In her review, Hemmysphere gave the session a five out of five saying:

“All the staff and the instructor, Sebastian, was lovely. Most importantly, I felt that I got a really good workout in 20 minutes with personalised attention from the instructor who was motivating and paid attention to my form.”

Before everyone headed off to relax, they were all given an introduction to the NARL fat-burning machine and given a complimentary pass to another session of Power Plates at any one of their studios based in Fulham, Chelsea, Mayfair or Battersea, so there’s no excuse not to keep up the good work!

If you missed this event, there’s no need to miss out - Wahanda is exclusively offering a free session at Powertone Studios which you can book directly online.

Wahanda talks to Power Plates pro, and owner of The Lifestyle Institute – Jessica Winstanley

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Despite once having a career that took her around the world, Jessica Winstanley has been at her happiest since she opened The Lifestyle Institute – one of London’s premiere Power Plate studios. And what with detox, diet and shaping up on everyone’s mind, Wahanda decided it was high time to quiz her on why Power Plates should be everyone’s answer to a fitter figure.

What did you do before you set up The Lifestyle Institute?

I worked in event production, mostly concerts and sporting events. I worked for a company in Frankfurt and lived in New York at the time a lot of travelling which I loved!

So what was it that attracted you to Power Plates and in turn a career in that area?

A few things - my diminished lower back pain after my first month of training, wonderful changes in my physical shape, and increased strength – all in a relatively short period of time. After I started training on the Plate, I would look at a gym and simply see inefficient use of time and effort.

Initially they were described as another faddy fitness craze or the lazy way to exercise, but they’ve continued to increase in popularity and credibility, why do you think that is?

Quite simply, results from users and media coverage of these results! I hope that the ‘lazy way to exercise’ belief goes out the door - my partner was the World number one squash player for years, in peak physical performance, but he found Power Plate training to be his most difficult and rewarding off-court form of exercise. Men though, in general, have not yet embraced even trying Power Plate - I find this disappointing as it is such an efficient way to build strength, without blowing out your back with heavy weights.

How would you compare the male / female ratio of the classes, is it more women-orientated?

Yes - my studio is about 85% women. I really enjoy training and chatting with my female clients, but sincerely hope that men will start accepting this form of training. Many top football clubs, including Manchester United, are now using the Power Plate as main forms of training, so I hope that fans follow suit! Many professional golfers actually travel with their own Power Plate to each event!

For those who aren’t yet convinced, what kind of workout can you get from a Power plate session?

It completely depends on what you want to focus on - whether you want to have a big sweat or stay dry. If a client is in fairly good shape and they are prepared to work as hard as possible, I like to take them through a mix of strength and cardiovascular work, moving quickly between postures to minimise rest periods and maximise strength output. We will use every major muscle group, with a strong focus on core strength. After a client is familiar with several different postures, I like to set the Plate to 5 minutes and work through each set with 30 second breaks in between, for 20 minutes, followed by a stretch. I challenge any gym buff to give it a try - I doubt they would be disappointed!

What other types of class can you integrate with power plates?

TLI has several different classes other than your classic full body training including boxing, cardiovascular, circuits, glutes & abs, upper body strength and stretch & core. We are also introducing Yoga in a few weeks.

So what do you think is next in the world of Power Plates?

R&D at Power Plate has been busy - they are introducing some fantastic new additions to the machine which will increase its usage. The concept of acceleration training will always stay the same though - the vibrating platform will only be enhanced, not changed.

What about the Lifestyle Institute, any big plans for 2009?

Well, we were planning on expansion prior to this economic nosedive! We plan on taking it easy in regards to growth, I suppose we’re a bit boring on the ‘play it safe’ side of things! My ultimate goal for TLI would be to team up with a health care provider, making our services available to a wider range of clients.

And how about you, any New Year’s Resolutions?

I’m not a big resolution kind of girl - I’m pretty satisfied with the big picture. Except for wanting to see more of Great Britain, get back into cooking, starting a poker night, finishing business books, buying a dog, wine tasting, ok…. there are some, I guess I’ll start working on them!!!

Book a 2-for-1 Power Plate session at The Lifestyle Institute for just £20, read more about Power Plate sessions at The Lifestyle Institute, and don’t forget you can spend your Wahanda voucher there too!

Next week, we’ll by trying out Power Plates for ourselves at the top three locations in London so don’t forget to check back to see how we got on!
