The UK’s leading chain of hair and beauty salons, Saks, have revealed plans to open some beauty-only salons. Known predominantly for their award-winning hair services, managing director Stephen Kee is interested on developing the beauty side of the salons, saying:
“I want them to have only beauty imagery in the windows and a different look inside but still with colours and messages that make it clear they are part of the Saks brand. Most franchisees that approach us will be specialist in either beauty or hair; few have trained to specialise in both. If the managers have dedicated their lives to beauty therapy it makes sense for us to allow them to focus all their time on that.”
The move gives Saks the opportunity to promote both hair and beauty equally, something which is difficult on one site. They currently have 140 salons nationwide – and a few international branches on top of that – and are looking to open four beauty-focused salons in 2011. After riding out the recession, Kee insists that it’s now all about growth.
