Having long been recognized as one of the best destination spas in Britain, The Feversham Arms Hotel and Verbena Spa in Helmsley has received the ultimate accolade after being named Hotel of The Year by the AA Hospitality Awards.
The Awards recognise and reward the excellent services provided by the UK’s top establishments including the finest AA-inspected hotels, restaurants and pubs throughout the UK. The glittering awards ceremony was held in the Hilton Park Lane in London on Monday night and was attended by the finest UK chefs and prominent hoteliers. The bash certainly didn’t disappoint with Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity providing the entertainment and celebrity chef Gary Rhodes cooking up a feast to remember.
No one was happier to attend than Feversham Arms owner Simon Rhatigan: “We’re delighted to have won- especially when you consider how many hotels the AA inspects every year. It’s a real milestone in our journey of continuous improvement. It’s great recognition for all the team here, who have done so much to bring it about.”
It’s the second time Rhatigan has won the award after scooping the prize back in 2003 for Seaham Hall. This time round it’s his own hotel and after a five year conversion process, taking a run down pub and transforming it into the hideaway hotel you see today, he truly is proud of his and his staff’s achievements. Having put Helmsley firmly on the map, Rhatigan and his colleagues will celebrate with a slap-up meal on the 4th of November.
The Verbena Spa contributes highly to the hotel’s great success, where a haven of relaxation awaits guests via a glass link bridge from the hotel itself. Combining a countryside chic and laid back design the spa has a range of groundbreaking therapies from Anne Semonin and Elemis. There’s no better time to visit than the present, with The Feversham Arms Hotel and Spa constantly improving on their already phenomenal success.

We all know that sweating is not particularly attractive but trying to control a dewy forehead or the moistness under your arm isn’t an easy task. As experts issued health warnings this week to stay cool and keep protected, the heat is on which is why the Harley Medical Group declared the start of the ‘Sweatox Season’. It seems that some people are going to extreme measures to stop being sweaty this summer. The new trend is to go under the needle for a quick fix to zap away sweat, leaving you feeling fresh and fabulous.
What is Sweatox?
Sweatox is the name penned by the Harley Medical Group for anti-sweat botox treatments which have seen a dramatic increase in this unusual British heatwave.
This summer, the ‘Sweatox season’ has been brought forward because of the early and even unexpected summer heat. The Harley Medical Group has seen ‘Sweatox’ bookings outnumbering last year’s. Larger cities like London, Manchester and Chelmsford have seen the biggest increase in this new trend and people are flocking to get their pits and hands sweat free by using this famous treatment.
Sweatox can relieve sweat in the typically sweaty areas of the body, including:
• Palms of the hands
• Under arms
• Chest
• Soles of the feet

If you’d like to give this anti-sweat treatment a go why not take a look at where you can get your dose of botox. But, if ‘Sweatox’ is not for you then check out Wahanda’s top ten tips to stay cool and stress free this summer.
- Peak sun is a no no! Try to stay away from the sun between peak times 12-3 in the afternoon.
- Spritz on the go. Carry a moisture spritz in your bag to give yourself a much needed cool down on the go or why not try out the Dove Detox offer that uses a body scrub containing cooling peppermint oil.
- Hide your head. Hats are big in the fashion stakes this season and practical too, so hide your head in the sun and look stylish all at the same time.
- Dress cool. Now, we don’t mean dressing by the Vogue fashion guidelines with your key pieces- wearing a heavy suit in this heat can be seriously uncomfortable so opt for light weight and loose fit clothing.
- Pools are cool. Pop down to your local swimming pool to cool down either on your lunch break or after a hard day’s work.
- Water, water, water. Carry water at all times to keep hydrated and cool.
- Take time out. Take time to pamper yourself when the heat is on and stress levels are rising. Yoga is known to have a calming influence and keeps you fit too. Or keep calm with a relaxing massage.
- Retreat to cooler climates. If you really cannot stand this heat then why not retreat to a relaxing spa in the coolest country Iceland. The Blue Lagoon offers a range of treatments from Mud baths to Swedish massage.
- Spice is nice. A top tip for keeping cool is eating spicy foods. Spicy food stimulates your appetite, circulation and raises body temperature, making you sweat more therefore making you cooler. Maybe that’s why in countries like Mexico and India their food is heavily influenced by hot spices.
- Sexy for summer. Keeping fit and healthy will make you happier in the summer months when you’re able to wear your favourite bikini or favourite summer mini dress. There are plenty of things to try including an all over body work out doing pole dancing or if you’d rather not work so hard try one of Wahanda’s free sessions of Power Plate.

Wahanda always likes to keep a step ahead of what’s happening in the world of beauty and wellness, so we skipped on down to Earls Court 2 yesterday for a look at what’s fresh and new at The Vitality Show, a fantastic ten years on from when it started.
Being the UK’s largest health, beauty and wellbeing show, we knew we were in for a treat or two. With a hair salon on site to give you instant trims for your tresses, blow drys to sort out your flyaways after the windy weather and extensions to give you a whole new look, hair and beauty buffs were flocking to book themselves in for a discounted ‘do. Elsewhere, Dove Spa were getting ready for summer sun with their St Tropez spray tans and Boots were giving all-important health checks in their Health Assessment centre to make sure guests were in tip-top condition.
Promising to keep you feeling well on the inside as well as looking dapper on the outside, there were plenty of nutritionists, organic food specialists and healthy eating promotions around to give you a taste of a healthy diet. Queues were forming at the Weight Watchers stand while Philadelphia presented top recipe ideas by celebrity chef Lesley Waters, which were enough to make anyone’s tastebuds tingle.
Not one to miss out on an opportunity to train the nation, Matt Roberts‘ team were on hand to give personal training sessions, ready to get you ship-shape for the summer, while Lucy Wyndham-Read’s company, LWR Fitness, were offering a free seven day trial of the online fitness programme that’s sure to become every woman’s new must-have.
Full of money-saving deals, goodies and demonstrations, this year’s event looks set to wow beauty and health enthusiasts alike. The Vitality Show runs until 29th March, so get your tickets on the website to make sure you don’t miss out!

They say no pain no gain, but ‘they’ clearly need a new saying as a new French lip procedure which lets you ditch the lip gloss for good has come to the UK. If you want lips as plump as Angelina Jolie without the hassle, this quick, subtle and painless lip enhancement procedure is for you. Brought to the UK by its creator, French cosmetic surgeon Philippe Bellity, the technique was initially developed as a more natural approach to lip-plumping, after the trend of overtly obvious filler treatments grew in the mainstream media.
Being all about gloss and plumping rather than voluptuous volume, the procedure is not for you if needles make you weak at the knees. Using pin-prick injections around the lip line and on the top layer of the lip rather than the muscle, hyaluronic acid solution is used to subtly plump up lips and add a natural shine. Quick enough to do in your lunch hour, you’ll still have enough time for a snack as the procedure only takes half an hour. The results however last from six months to a year, leaving you with a gloriously pumped up pout that even celebrities will envy.
Dr Bellity has made the treatment widely popular in France, creating the technique after qualifying in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Proving that Leslie Ash’s look is not the desired result, Dr Bellity says:
“Lip enhancement has had bad press in the cosmetic surgery industry and French women want to look naturally enhanced. You never see a French woman with a trout pout, thanks to the technique I have perfected.”
The hyaluronic acid solution is a substance which naturally occurs in the body, making it a great way of adding some shape and shine without being too invasive. There is even an antidote to the treatment so that if you feel you’ve got more than you bargained for, your lips can be reduced back to size.
If you fancy a fuller, glossier pout you can get the treatment at the London Day Surgery Centre with prices starting at £500. It may seem pricey, but think how much money you’ll save on lip glosses once you’ve acquired that enviable bee-stung lip look.

You may well know what pilates is and perhaps even how to do it, but even the most avid pilates enthusiast may not have heard of Beautcamp Pilates, for shame. That’s where Wahanda can help. Forest Whitaker
Here at Wahanda we always have the hottest Hollywood scoops of which fitness regime the A list stars swear by, and this week we’ve dug the dirt on the latest yoga trend. Madonna, Cindy Crawford, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Forest Whitaker are just some celebrities among the elite that are fanatical of Kundalini Yoga. Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker has been practising Kundalini Yoga for decades, and has shared that if he hadn’t been an actor (heaven forbid), he would have taken up a career in holistic health. Well, if Kundalini Yoga is good enough for Whitaker, then Wahanda thinks it’s more than good enough for you!
The talented actor admits that by practising Kundalini Yoga he has become more intuitive and alert, and believes the exercise helped him take his acting to the next level to win an Academy Award. Whitaker says Kundalini Yoga has helped him in many areas of his life from his personal healing to his general sense of well-being.
The word Kundalini literally means “the curl of the lock of hair”, a metaphor- a poetic way of describing the flow of energy and consciousness that already exists within each one of us. It’s no wonder Madonna practises Kundalini during her world tours. Fitness is of course an important part of Madonna’s stage act and her Kundalini Yoga practice really helps both her body and wellbeing. As a celebrity yoga figure, Madonna has done more for the young who have been seeking ways to help heal the stress, confusion and direction in their lives than other alternatives. The science of Kundalini Yoga is known to arouse the creative being from within, which certainly explains Whitaker’s success! The yoga trend opens your body’s chakras (energy centres), eases the mind, and helps the body and mind to be open, strong and receptive. Kundalini is by far one of the most powerful yoga practices around.
To find out more about what Kundalini Yoga can do for you and where you can take part, visit Wahanda’s dedicated treatment page.
